compton software package provides compositor for X11, based on xcompmgr, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install compton
compton is installed in your system.
Make ensure the compton package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep compton *
You will get with compton package name, version, architecture and description in a table
